In 1906, the school established a mining college. In 1957, the University College of Auckland was renamed the University of Auckland. In 1962, the University of New Zealand dissolved and the University of Auckland became independent, introducing new subjects such as geography, anthropology, Maori studies, and fine arts. In 1968, the school began teaching in the new medical school. In 2015, the School of Education was renamed as the School of Education and Social Work. In May of the same year, the Newmark campus was established. In 2016, the National College of Creative Arts and Industries was renamed as the College of Creative Arts and Industries (CAI). In 2019, a new engineering college building was established at the University of Auckland Central Campus. In 2020, the school opened the South Auckland campus.
